Oman declares holiday on Saturday, school exams put off

Oman has declared Saturday as the official holiday for both public as well as the private sector even as Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation announced that wind was blowing at over 70 km/h accompanied with heavy rains in Masirah Island as well as the other coastal areas of the eastern region.

According to the latest satellite images, the weather office here, the category three cyclone – Phet - was about 160km off Masirah coast.

The weather here has forecast the possibility of the tropical cyclone Phet passing over Masirah and Duqm in the morning tomorrow.

The meteorological department also expects rains Friday in Muscat, Batinah in northern parts and Buraimi in the northwest. The weather centre in Oman expects rains to drench parts of the country for the next 48 hours as a result of the tropical cyclone Phet.

Fishermen have been cautioned and asked not to venture into sea while residents have been asked to be careful while crossing low lying areas, especially nearwadis.

The Education Ministry has put off all examinations while Ministry of Regional Municipality and Water Resources said that they were gearing up for the worst situation and had set up a control room to monitor the situation along with the National Committee for Civil Defence, which has set up a central control room to coordinate efforts of all the government and non-government agencies in the country in the face of tropical cyclone Phet striking Oman.

Do we need God‘s & religions ?????????????????

Let's not debate the great, classic questions of whether religion in general, or any particular religion, is true, or whether God exists, whether religious belief is rationally justifiable.

In my opinion I don’t think there is any intervening spirit watching lovingly over the affairs of universe & mankind in particular. No vital forces propel evolutionary change. And whatever we think of God, his existence is not manifest in the products of nature.

See I am not arguing that all these sacred scriptures and it s contents are wrong

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth; whole human race came from Adam & Eve; Christ took with him all the sins, sorrows & misery of the mankind with him to the crucifixion. Whole universe was made in 6 days. Is neither true or false, most of them are meaningless.

& neither do I want to start an argument here stating the props & cons of god

If god existed why is this much suffering & misery is God unwilling to prevent evil, in which case he is either not good or he’s selfish as are we . And & there is no being that is completely good, knows everything, and is all powerful. And so, if god has created it he’s a big failure as a creator. & how can a thing which is not perfect be idolised.

My question is simple do we need gods & religions ????

I am not sure abt the first but I think we don’t need religions !!!!!!!!!

You can believe in a God (or hold other supernatural beliefs) in a distant or merely intellectual way, and yet not make religion a significant part of your life. These religions, they were unconcerned with humanity and unable to affect the natural world. For this reason, I believe humanity should have no fear of the supernatural & the religions.

Religion is nothing but a system of doctrines and promises which on the one hand explains to him the riddles of this world with enviable completeness, and, on the other, assures him that a careful Providence will watch over his life and will compensate him in a future existence for any frustrations he suffers here.

Religious rituals do not do anything other than strengthen the beliefs of the group taking part and reinforce the collective consciousness.

Religion fulfilled the functions of:

• Binding people together in groups

• Supporting the moral code of the group

• Supporting the social code of the group

This was enough to give people a feeling that there was something supernatural going on.

It was rightly said, religion is "the opium of the people"

Though we have benefited from religions but, religions' reliance on divine authority lends itself to authoritarianism and dogmatism. Combined with historical events that demonstrate the dangers of religion, such as the Crusades, inquisitions, and witch trials & Indeed the present problems like , religious fundamentalism and extrinsic religion , terrorism are just few examples .

Since religion is just a psychological fantasy, human beings should abandon it so that they can grow to respond appropriately to deal with the world as it is.

Base the religious ideas on rational thought rather than external authority

tolerate a wide range of religious ideas, in a wide variety of other, broader philosophies, such as existentialism, objectivism, secular humanism, nihilism, logical positivism, Marxism

The following elements and principle of Secular humanism can be taken into account

 Need to test beliefs – A conviction that dogmas, ideologies and traditions, whether religious, political or social, must be weighed and tested by each individual and not simply accepted on faith.

 Reason, evidence, scientific method – A commitment to the use of critical reason, factual evidence and scientific methods of inquiry, rather than faith, in seeking solutions to human problems and answers to important human questions.

 Fulfillment, growth, creativity – A primary concern with fulfillment, growth and creativity for both the individual and humankind in general.

 Search for truth – A constant search for objective truth, with the understanding that new knowledge and experience constantly alter our imperfect perception of it.

 Ethics – A search for viable individual, social and political principles of ethical conduct, judging them on their ability to enhance human well-being and individual responsibility.

& above all A concern for this life and a commitment to making it meaningful through better understanding of ourselves, our history, our intellectual and artistic achievements, and the outlooks of those who differ from us. A conviction that with reason, an open exchange of ideas, good will, and tolerance, progress can be made in building a better world for ourselves and our children.

Today I received a call at 3:56 am. at first I ignored it then the second time it rang I just peeped in to check who is it ? it was one of ma best fnd whom I have been knowing for past 10 years. Then suddenly I felt a glup in ma stomach & I felt ashamed of myself . Is she calling for an emergency?? how can I be such irresponsible , though I was never responsible b4 but still !!!

Normally I start ma conversation with the usual equities & I knew 100 of them but right now nothing came to ma mind . I was totally blank , & she didn’t speak for a while too . May be bcoz she felt it odd since I never use to be quite over the phone at least . Or is it bcoz she doesn’t know wat to say ???

No matter how advanced we are or the n no of equipments or gadgets we have now at our disposal but still we are far from being equipped for the emergencies . nothing but our mind & self presence only comes handy at those moments .

Though it was just a few seconds gap but it felt to me like ages .

Then a sweet murmur came frm the other end it was so feeble that I barely heard anything at the beginning. But as soon as I heard her voice all ma worries went to bay .though I didn’t knew the content yet but there was no sense of fear or urgency in her tone , half of ma worries were gone I was now confident & alert enough to deal with any situation . I was ready not bcoz I had to .she was there with me all these years through the thick & thin & not only in ma gud or bad times but also in ma ordinary time s since ma 75 % or more of ma life constituted of tat . She was there no matter how boring it was .

Sound at the other end said you have to come to ma daughters b day , da u know I have prepared a sadhya & paysam . at tat time I gave a sigh of relief she was so preoccupied in her conversation that she didn’t notice it . Normally she senses tat in a sec. A party again ? Normally they do not party often. they are a typical malayalee family .they would rather save more than wat they spend , but recently they had a party since they had built a house in viyur, kerala .then I tried to be more specific whether u r gng to call all or … she interrupted me & said no just 2 of am brothers , kinnan ( our class mate ) & u . tats it . b4 I culd say anything she said u need not worry “ njyan kazikyubol nine orthollam “ & she smiled . ok ten gud morning & she kept the phone ………..

At first i felt irritated & bit odd she calls me at 3:56 am to invite me to a party which I cant attend though I really wanted to .even Anil Wadhwa ( the ambassador to Oman frm India) would find it difficult to go at such a short notice .since we life in different countries .& there’s no such ‘ sorry to disturb u tis time’ or were u sleeping … no such formalities …..

Then I smiled, she doesn’t have to ….

Now wit all ma sleep gone I though to write a letter of appreciation to her

For inviting me for navni’s b day

For not hesitating to call me at 3:56 am & above all

For being such a nice mother …….. lucky is tat little angel to have her as a mother . really now a days how many of us do such things for our dear & near ones , since she’s a working she did what she wanted to b4 hand . we often check our schedules b4 saying yes I wld be there or off course u can count on me .i have often heard excuses & one of ma best is ‘ at least I did this na ‘ I am not saying tat you should work till dawn to give a decent b day party to u r daughter , but still there are a 100 s of thing that u can do !!!!!!!!

We all know that at the end of the day only our family & fnds wld be there yet we spend half of the day in office but hardly an hour with the people whom we should be with.. Some might say everyone is like that or I’m like that all these years, so why there should be a change now.. But the fact is that we all can change ourselves.. or in simple words, better late than never…

Some one rightly said’ A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts’.
